Lucio fulci ?

Hi all i have seen all of lucio fulci most post 1978 but i was wondering if earlier films like beatrice and cenci etc were worth watching.

Maybe you guys can help

Cheers

I havent seen them but I have heard they're good.

UngodlyWarlock 02-10-2009 05:12 PM

Have you seen The Psychic?
It was one of the ones that slipped under my radar until last year and I adored it. It's a touch giallo, but mostly a mystery. The story is woven well and the music is great.

Highly recommended if you want to try out one of his earlier non-zombie films.

-D

Does "The Burning" qualify as a good slasher? It's been a long time since i've seen it.

ZombieSalad 02-15-2009 07:39 AM

The Burning is a great slasher movie ! Revenge!:D

ZombieSalad 02-15-2009 07:56 AM

Lucio Fulci number ONE! woopwoo! excuse, just have to comment when I see the legends name=)

ZombieSalad 02-15-2009 08:30 AM

Communion (Alice, Sweet Alice) (1976)

And though I'm not a huge fan, people find this one iconic:

Tenebre (1982)

Suspiria, is a classic film IMO, a film that i still like today. My dad was into Goblin or The Goblins as they are sometimes credited. Thats why when i was young we got dragged to the movies every saturday night to see movies like Contamination, The burning and any other b- grade Italian splatter, overdubbed in bad english, movies. Ironically it has given me an appreciation of the classics considering so much that is released today is crap. I understand that this movie is going to be remade at some point.

creepycrawler23 02-18-2009 01:16 PM

you might want to check out some cult classics from charles band

scouse mac 02-18-2009 03:12 PM

Tenebrae, Opera and Suspiria (all been mentioned previously) are quality films.
Id say Tenebrae is the best.

Demons is well worth checking out aswell.

I watched a few recently. Trancers aka Future Cop was killer! Crash and Burn with Bill Mosely was great too.

I've got a couple more of his to watch like Metalstorm and Dollman.

Elvis_Christ 02-19-2009 01:46 AM

Demons rules! The second was ok but kinda weak. I've got the third but haven't braved it yet

Papillon Noir 02-19-2009 06:12 AM

There's also some classic 80's slashers:
Happy Birthday to Me
April Fool's Day
Terror Train
Prom Night
Slumber Party Massacre
Silent Night, Deadly Night

I don't think the 3rd one really has much to do with anything of the other 2...it's in name only.

I see nobody has paid much attention to this yet...

A must watch, if you are into Argento or curious about his flicks. Quite pacy, unique scripting and plot, and a very young Jennifer Connelly on debut.

Killer soundtrack too. I recommend the Anchor Bay release. Watch it asap.

scouse mac 02-19-2009 05:22 PM

Never seen Phenomena, wiil defo put it on the to do list

The Flayed One 02-19-2009 07:54 PM

I've gotta go ahead and throw in my love for Sleepless. Great mystery flick with some extremely brutal death scenes. It's newer Argento with a throwback to his classic mysogynistic style.

Backed. In fact as I've said a bunch of times (I think?) its my favorite of his work.

I love it. I prefer the Creepers cut of it because its not so longwinded.

That one was my introduction to Argento.

_____V_____ 02-20-2009 12:25 AM

Haven't seen the Creepers version of it yet.

How much of the flick is cut out of it? Does it miss any important scenes or murders?

Elvis_Christ 02-20-2009 12:46 AM

All the murders/key scenes are intact. Its just a condensed version really. A lot of people feel the opposite to me on it however.

scarecrow666 02-23-2009 07:05 AM

Twitch of the Death Nerve (1971)
Sleepaway Camp (1983)
Haute Tension (2003) < Brilliant film.

Yes i cheated.........

Hello i wanted to start and collect some movies from this genre although they are difficult to get hold of.

I was wondering if the following movies were good examples of the genre

Almost human
rabid dogs
street law
contraband
the big racket

Thank you

both still "due" from code red.

Disease 03-05-2009 04:16 PM

I have never heard of that genre specific before. maybe Baise Moi fits into it, I thought that was a good movie... a couple of chicks on a rampage throughout France.

nicklord1 03-06-2009 01:13 AM

Euro crime was a genre largely in the 70s although existed well into the 80s and it was essentially italy's version of dirty harry / gangster movies.

Ferox13 03-06-2009 02:17 AM

Fulci's The Naples Connection

Blazing Magnum

Black Friday (German not Italian)

The Heroin Busters

Live Like a Cop, Die Like a Man

The Cynic, the Rat & the Fist

nicklord1 03-06-2009 03:10 AM

Thanks for that ferox but its hard to track these movies on dvd.

Have you heard of Il boss and violent professionals

Elvis_Christ 03-06-2009 03:14 AM

Pretty green on this genre but enjoyed Revolver which you can grab from Mr Lustig's great company Blue Underground.

Ferox13 03-06-2009 03:18 AM

Yup but I've never seen them...

My mate is a big Euro-crime fan - i've seen lots of them in his gaff but after too many beers all the moustashes and bad suits begin to blur :-)

Believe it or not quite a few were released here and the UK pre-cert...

Elvis_Christ 03-06-2009 03:24 AM

I haven't run into fuck all of them over here but most of my VHS buying was horror orientated, I bet a bunch slipped me by when the stores were getting rid of their tapes.

Damn, I missed out on my chance with V.H.S , I was buying up big with all the ex rentals in 2006 - 2007 but then moved to the U.K and missed the rest of the sale. By the time I get back to Australia V.H.S will not exist in shops....
