Hi thanks for your help when i make a giallo rental list , ill post it here and see what you guys think.
Maybe i need to give bava another chance now i am more mature. I just found a bay of blood a little too slow maybe i wasnt in the mood |
Really? I thought Bay of Blood was amazing when I first watched it.
|
MAybe i need to give it another watch i am not sure
|
Bay of Blood can be kind of a difficult movie. For one thing, it has one hell of a warped sense of causality and plot. You're basically looking at a movie that shrugs its shoulders ar you and says "shit happens" kind of like Gus Van Sant's Elephant but actually exalting in the gore. I can see how for some people it would be slow, nihilisitc and hard to wrap one's head around in spite of the brilliance of its storytelling methods and the harshness of it all.

I haven't seen Bava's Hatchet for the Honeymoon, Lamberto's Blade in the Dark & Fulci's Duckling yet, hope to see them soon I guess. And haven't seen some of the other Giallo films that V pointed out nicely in bold. But lately I have seen all the Martino films (or should I say Fabulous Fenech Giallos;)) and to me Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key is the best from them. Very much interested to see The Case of the Bloody Iris...another "Fabulous Fenech Giallo" as I know. But before that The House with Laughing Windows & Seven Blood-Stained Orchids are in my ques next. Anyway, here's a list of Top 25 GIALLOS that I made & ranked according to my preferences...from 'Best' to 'wort a watch': 1. Bay of Blood 2. Blood and Black Lace 3. Opera 4. Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key 5. The House That Screamed 6. Tenebre 7. Deep Red 8. What Have They Done To Your Daughters? 9. The Bird with the Crystal Plumage 10. The Girl Who knew too much 11. Kill Baby...Kill! 12. What Have They Done To Solange? 13. Lizard in a Woman's Skin 14. Pieces 15. The Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh 16. The Black Belly of the Tarantula 17. The Psychic 18. All the Colors of the Dark 19. The Stendhal Syndrome 20. 5 Dolls for an August Moon 21. Eyes of Laura Mars 22. Strip Nude for your Killer 23. Case of the Scorpion's Tail 24. Torso 25. The New York Ripper Some of the films I really need to see again...don't know the reason but can't recall many of the scenes or the storyline properly!:o |
I liked "My Dear Killer" aka Mio Caro Assassino directed by Tonino Valerii, no matter how many times I watch this movie I can never remember who the killer is. Another good movie is Alice sweet Alice aka Communion directed by Alfred Sole
|
Alice Sweet Alice is a great movie, but not gaillo.
|
of course there are the American wanna-be gialli like
DRESSED TO KILL and the Carpenter scripted EYES OF LAURA MARS |
Dressed To Kill is so solid. It'd be great if De Palma started doing flicks like that again.
|
Hi have managed to put these giallo movies on my rental list.
cat o nine tails house with laughing windows deep red the bird with the crystal plummage torso who saw her die Is this is a good start Cheers |
good start
TORSO starts off weak and slow, but the last fifteen minutes are stunningly directed... the ending saves the film for me. |
Lately saw Laughing windows and it's a pretty good 70's creepy horror-thriller which I don't like to call a Giallo.

Some of my favorite non-Argento giallo films:
Spirits of Death (Un bianco vestito per Mariale) (1972) - one of the early films by Romano Scavolini, who later directed the famous slasher ''Nightmares in Damaged Brain''. ''Spirits of Death'' offers creepy atmosphere of the medieval castle, decadence and very surprising final scene, completely different from the standards of giallo thrillers. The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh (Lo strano vizio della Signora Wardh) (1971) - definitly one of the best giallos by Sergio Martino, even better then later ''The Case of the Scorpions Tale''. Great role of beautiful Edwige Fenech, demonic Ivan Rassimov as her ex-lover, and - what's most important - very clever plot with many surprising twists which can leave you speechless even a giallo fan. All the Colors of the Dark (Tutti i colori nel buio) (1972) - another great thriller by Sergio Martino, this time with lot of psychodelic scenes and pretty onyric atmosphere. We can see another great appearences of Edwige Fenech and Ivan Rassimov, as well as George Hilton. Finally, the fantastic music score of Bruno Nicolai needs to be mentioned. Don't Torture a Duckling (Non si sevizia un paperino) (1972) - one of the early films of Lucio Fulci is one of his best at the same time. Beautiful locations, portraying the typical small village society and great gore scenes are it's strongest sides, together with music of Riz Ortolani. Eyes of Crystal (Occhi di cristalo) (2004) - one of very few post-2000 attempts to reanimate giallo, and I have to say it's a good one. Great plot, good roles of Luigi Lo Cascio and Lucia Jimenez, and many references to the classic giallos, including ''Four Flies on Grey Velvet'', ''Torso'' and ''Don't Torture a Duckling''. |

Hi folks.
Can anybody help me. Trying to find Four Flies on Grey Velvet-either region free or region 2. Amazon only have it as region 1 and i have yet to invest in a multi region dvd player. This and Le cinque Giornate are the only two of Argento's films that i have been unable to get a hold on. Thank you Peeps xxx |

alice sweet alice ?
Hi i just watched this movie and wanted to know your take on it etc etc i.e who was the murderer
|
I had the impression that the housekeeper was the killer and Alice would likely take her place.

I'm guessing that you are over 40 ;) |

I liked this movie, a very good who done it mystery with all the hallmarks of
a galio. The killer was Mrs Tredoni the church house keeper. I am curious of Newb's remarks to TheWickerFan, I am under the age of 40, in fact I had to lie about my age before I could join this forum. Did I ever mention that all the mods on this forum are all awesome people. |
lol
sorry..my bad I saw the word "housekeeper" and "Alice" and the first thing I thought of was "The Brady Bunch" that what happens when you get over 40 :o |
Has anyone heard of the term...
"HUGE SPOILER ALERT"?! Congratulations. You just spoiled the film for an entire group of people who haven't seen the film yet. |

There was another film called Alice the housekeeper directed by Just Jaeckin and it starred Sylvia Kristel, its not a horror movie:rolleyes: but it would put you guys in the over 40 age group. Sylvia Kristel is my favorite scream queen. |

My favorite slasher franchises are:
-Friday the 13th (1980 - 2009) -A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984 - 2010) -The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974 - 2006) -Halloween (1978 - 2009) -The Hills Have Eyes (Remakes 2006-2007) -SCREAM (1996-2000) -Wrong Turn (2003-2009) |
Happy Birthday to Me and Sleepaway Camp are good one. Also check out the original Black Christmas. It's considered to be the first slasher film ever made, and I will happily vouch for it's awesomeness.
